CITY  COUNCIL MEETING

Meeting Minutes of April 2, 2026

Mayor Andy Schabel! called the Alexandria City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the invocation and the pledge to the flag. The following Council Members answering roll call:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 19, 2026, Regular Meeting

MOTION: Tom Baldridge made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 19, 2026, Regular Meeting, seconded by Patrick Blair. All in favor, the motion passed, 6-0-0.

ORDINANCES, RESOLUTIONS & MUNICIPAL ORDERS

Bill Rachford gave an overview of the Kentucky Veteran’s Hall of Fame, when it was created and their purpose and how the new monument will be placed at the new city campus. They have around 300 Veterans inducted so far and have a goal to induct around 20-25 veterans each year.

There was a question regarding what else would be placed around the memorial. There is discussion regarding having several knee-high walls around the memorial that would include names that are over at the current Tribute Park and also allow for more names. There was also a question regarding what the plan was once space ran out for names and how to add onto that.

Resolution 2026-03: A Resolution of the City of Alexandria, in Campbell County, Kentucky, authorizing and directing the Mayor to execute and enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame, Rolf Monument Company, and American Legion Post 219.

MOTION: Stacey Graus made a motion to approve Resolution 2026-03, seconded by Robert Strong. All in favor, the motion passed 6-0-0.

UNSCHEDULED VISITORS AND GUEST

Fighting for Freedom Event, Jessica Overgaard: Ms. Overgaard shared about Human Trafficking that happens here in Kentucky. Governor Beshear signed an EO creating a coalition to fight against human trafficking. The event will take place at Main Street Baptist Church on April 18 from 12:00pm – 6:00pm. She shared about all the speakers that will be at the event.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

City Clerk: Ms. Tarter reported the city is working with Tyler Technologies to expand online payment options on the website that should be live in the next month or so.

City Administrator: See attached report. He reported that the dam inspection went well. KYTC is stopping their street sweeping program on US 27, so it is something for the city to look at for the future. Mr. Blair praised the report and the attention given to issues raised by residents.

Public Works: He gave an update on the project on Walnut Park. The water work should be finished by end of next week and the city’s road project is still on schedule to be completed by end of May beginning of June. He also shared that SD1 will be preforming work to replace a 48″ section of partially collapsed line. A portion of Ridgewood will be closed for a week in July to perform the work. Communication will be sent out via SD1 and the city.

COUNCIL COMMITTEES

Public Works – Tom Baldridge: Next meeting will be June 18, 2026, at 6:00pm.

Safety – Laura Fincher: Next meeting will be May 21, 2026, at 6:30pm.

Business Retention  & Development –  Michael McGrath:  Met this evening and discussed ways to help local businesses and creating a local business council. Next meeting will be July 2, 2026, at 6:00pm.

Personnel – Robert Strong: Next meeting will be June 18, 2026, at 6:30pm. Finance Stacey Graus: The next meeting will be April 16, 2026, at 6:00pm. Future Planning – Patrick Blair: Next meeting will be May 7, 2026, at 6:00pm

BOARDS & COMMISSIONS

Park & Recreation: Mayor Schabel! shared the board met this week and shared how the city has a skate park and he asked the board to find a place to put the skate park. The board has been unable to find a location, and he opened it up to council to try to figure out a location for it to go.

There was conversation regarding other options ranging from partnering with the county or placing it in the overflow parking area off of Grandview Drive. They discussed pros and cons of each option.

NEW BUSINESS

Amplify Alexandria: Mr. Strong gave a report on the Amplify Alexandria business for April, Dollhouse Beauty Salon.

OLD BUSINESS – None

COUNCIL & MAYOR COMMENTS

Robert Strong: He shared he attended an event with speaker Governor Beshear, and he discussed the new bridge project, new businesses and other things impacting the region. He also gave an update on the building, roof and windows are being installed in the gym, the brick facade is going up.

Mayor Schabel!: He shared that today is Autism Awareness Day. He also thanked First Assembly of God for their letter of gratitude and gift to council and administrative staff.

Chief Cooper shared that every police department in Campbell County will be present for the Heroes Day event, they will have several demonstrations from several agencies along with a helicopter.

MOTION: Robert Strong made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Tom Baldridge. All in favor the motion passed 6-0-0.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm
